Received Lawrence's last letter & reply from J. Determined to review 2 books today and to get on with Second Helping. Saw the fool of a doctor today, diddle-dum dum de! Cod is the only word! Badin-ag-e! Flat-ter-ie! Gallan-ter-ie! Frogs!!! Vous pouvez vous promenez. Liar. The palm tree. Did not finish review but no matter, it goes. [KM Notebooks]
Now about Constable. If they will give £40 in advance & Richards wont it must be Constable of course. I have explained my relations with Richards. A book including Prelude, Je ne Parle pas, and so on would be interesting. But I must make very sure of what they collect from Rhythm. The story ‘The Wind Blows' from the Signature is in the collection. Its the only one worth reprinting. The book had certainly better include Prelude: it makes a longer book. I am afraid this is adding to your great press of work. Sadler says even if an arrangement is come to nothing can be published for several months. In that case the final decision as to which stories could perhaps be left for my return in the first week of May.
But this is all rubbish beside your sore throat and your remark about breaking your neck house-hunting. I must wire you and somehow stamp down my anxiety until I have your reply.
