Fontainebleau-Avon June 2017

This very special event, organised by Bernard Bosque and the town hall of Avon, in commemoration of Katherine Mansfield, took place on 10 June 2017. See attached poster and itinerary for the day. KM’s most senior living relative, Janine Renshaw-Beauchamp (the granddaughter of KM’s sister, Jeanne), was present, as well as KMS Chair Gerri Kimber, representing the Society. The New Zealand Ambassador to France, James Kember, and his wife Alison, came down from Paris for the ceremonies.

The day evolved as follows:

  • 10h30 : A ceremony at the Avon cemetery in which KM is buried.
  • 11h30 : A reception at the Avon town hall
  • 12h30 : Lunch at the Manoir de Bel Ébat
  • 14h30 : A guided visit of the grounds of the Prieuré des Basses Loges, where KM spent the last few weeks of her life.
  • 16h00 : A guided tour of the Katherine Mansfield plaques in Fontainebleau Forest.
  • 18h00 : An evening conference at the Manoir de Bel Ébat

The KMS would like to give special thanks to Bernard Bosque, a tireless and invaluable member of the KMS, who does so much to keep Mansfield's flame burning brightly in France and elsewhere.
