Birthday Lecture 2014

KATHERINE MANSFIELD SOCIETY ANNUAL BIRTHDAY LECTURE

12 OCTOBER 2014

‘KATHERINE MANSFIELD AND LIFE WRITING’

PROFESSOR LAURA MARCUS, University of Oxford

The birthday lecture was another wonderful occasion, organised by Gerri Kimber, with guests enjoying a fascinating talk by Professor Laura Marcus from the University of Oxford talking about Katherine Mansfield’s Afterlives and biofiction. At the event we also launched vol 3 of the Edinburgh Edition of the Collected Works of Katherine Mansfield: The Poetry and Critical Writings. Many thanks to EUP for their generosity in paying for wine and nibbles. In addition, Professor Claire Davison presented Chris Mourant with his cheque as winner of this year’s essay prize.  All in all there were many reasons to celebrate!

Heartfelt thanks also go to KMS member Lesley Sharp, who yet again donated a £50 cheque to pay for the cupcakes to celebrate KM’s birthday, even though she herself was unable to attend. Thank you so much, Lesley!

Thanks also go to Professor Janet Wilson who organised the wonderful venue at Birkbeck, and to Dr Delia da Sousa Correa and the Open University, who covered the cost of the birthday lecture booklets, and to the University of Northampton who printed them.

In addition, Janet Wilson, Kevin Ireland, Delia da Sousa Correa and her daughter Gwen (who personally baked some of the most delicious chocolate cup cakes), Claire Davison and Ralph Kimber, gave up their Sunday to help with the organising on the day.

Copies of the birthday lecture are now available to purchase in our shop.
