Villa Flora, Menton - France

Will you ask Eliot to supper on Sunday? I want to see him very much & have messages for him. But if youre not inclined its no matter, dearest.
My own dearest
A dinner party here 18. Im wearing my purpil dress. I thought I shouldn't be able to get into it - but pas de chance. Im also wearing real small pearl ear rings - a farewell present. They are very lovely -being real they have such a different feeling. I rather dread the dinner. Oh Id so much rather go to my Schiffs.  Mr Schiff is a kind of literary fairy godfather to me. He looks after me so perfectly and so gently & Violet Schiff seemed to me the last time far more beautiful and more fascinating than before. She will fascinate you - the movement of her lips, her eyes, her colour, all her beauty. And their house is always for me the house where lovers dwell. He loves her perfectly. And her quick ‘darling' and hand outstretched . . . I mustn't talk of these people for I could talk too much. They are so real and dear & beautiful to me & they understand ones work. Our farewell has been postponed until tomorrow. We are going to Eze by car. Its a tiny Saracen village on the Grand Corniche Road. Stratford sounds awful my darling -hopelessly awful - & no pyjamas to crown all! If we'd been there together we should have fought for good dry beds but even then we couldn't fight for good dry skies. I think Ill learn plays by heart and give representations like Mrs Hannibal Williams used to.
I sent you today four assiettes tres anciennes and a fruit dish. They are perfect. There were no more to be had. And they cost me - oh dear. Now I am quite broke really broke - its awful!
