Villa Flora, Menton - France

About your Cinnamon and Angelica Im frightfully anxious to see reviews. Arthur & C.S. have done it beautifully - Yesterday Connie began reading part of it aloud - Angelica & Mrs Carraway (oughtn't she to have been Mistress?) I wish to God it will be a success. Its only a question of time but I know what it means to be recognised immediately. There is nothing so wonderful or that has so renewing an effect upon an author. My love, I wish it for you with all my heart.
Just let me look at your list of friends again. No, we cant really include Virginia. I don't know Tomlinson at all personally - I cant call him or T. Eliot or Group (3) my friends except in so far as they are people whom I feel certain are right people - Tommy & Eliot because of their books the other (3) because you know and like them. Brett is a dear creature but again - yes - she's a friend - but much more a friend of yours than mine. Violet Schiff Id include and Schiff without the smallest hesitation or doubt. I like him as much as I do his wife but in of course an entirely different way. He attracts me tremendously and his great kindness, sensitiveness, almost childishness endear him to me. In fact Id head my list with those 2 but thats because I look at people from a different angle to what you do. Then Id include Anne Rice -definitely. I love her as a ‘being' as Kot would say. What a silly I am. Now I see you only call your list ‘nice people'. Then I subscribe to it of course. Im sure they are nice - but thats not enough, is it?  [To J. M. Murry in Collected Letters, 22 April 1920]
