21 April

21 April 1920

Villa Flora, Menton - France

Please tell the old boy.
Dearest Bogey
This is about Arthur. Of course I am entirely in favour of the scheme. It is splendid to think we shall have a painter in the family and I rejoice greatly -
As regards money - he can, as you say, always have Broomies at his back - a sure haven. And then Id like him to know that I am certain to have money one of these days - certain - I mean money that will be left me. This, as long as our children are provided for, Arthur can always count on. At any rate, however big our family (no fear of that) I shall always leave (give) Arthur enough to live on without working. I am determined within the next few years to have a house in the South here. He can always come and paint and be free of all money worries.
I love and admire Arthur and its simply the greatest good fortune to have a chance of making him happy. Here we are. He can take from us without ever dreaming of paying back: he can just be our brother -in art as well as in life - and all success to him and a proud sister's blessing -
We must see him through.
Goodbye for now my darling
For ever and amen your
Wig.   [To J. M. Murry in Collected Letters, c. 20 April 1920]
