Villa Flora, Menton - France

I shall be able to give little parties next year to my friends here - for the Schiffs will be here. The Tinayres, Lytton's married sister, and so on. Ive paid the deposit & shall leave part of the rent to be paid at the present exchange. Then I want you to come for Xmas if you can - & I thought Brett might come for a month here (12 guineas, Id ask her - couldn't do it for less). It has the most superb view & a concierge on the premises. It looks very like Sir John & Lady Middleton Murry - which pleases me. Darling, I love the thought of North Devon. You'd better write soon to that hotel. Of course I don't mind it being far from the railway - why ever should I? But do you mind very much if I take a maid with me? Its such a bore dressing & undressing & packing & getting things & shed be a comfort travelling. Its such a waste of time & energy for you to do all these things & I can't do them & we want a holiday. I don't see very well how we can do without a maid for a month. All our buttons will come off & well have no clean hankies. I thought perhaps Violets or Gerties sister might come or Ill get someone from an agency for the month.
Well my own precious Boge. Of course I understand about the £10. But Id like to help you but I can't. You see Ive had to pay for 2 wagon lits & 1st floor rooms in Paris - & then there is all the tipping etc here. Ill be très hard up by the time I get back. [To J. M. Murry in Collected Letters]
