Villa Flora, Menton - France

Precious Bogey darling
The Schiffs have just been. They are giving a luncheon party for me tomorrow and they came in to beg me not to bother to talk. "Let them do the running." Also Schiff wanted to tell me he'll send a car for me & send me back in it. He has had my disease so he rather exaggerates the care one ought to take. But its all in more than kindness. Well, if I do take fancies to people, love its nothing to the fancies they take to your Wig-wife. It makes me feel so horribly unworthy & it excites me so. I long to be worthy of these sweet things they tell me. Im not: its all nonsense, but they find something strange in me like people do in you. Were Broomies & they know it. But Mrs Schiff says suddenly: "youre such a lovely little thing I want to cry." (I only tell you that in dead privacy.) She feels like Anne feels. Its not false. There are certain people who make me feel loving warmhearted - tender - and - like children feel. Anne is one. Violet Schiff is another. Did I tell you that (its confidential) Schiff wrote Richard Kurt?
Oh, to be among people with whom one can discuss prose - and its possibilities. Not very seriously or well but at any rate to discuss it and be understood. But you must meet Violet Schiff. Shes one of the most attractive women that we have known - physically and mentally. You'd admire her - You'd like her and her mind. I am frightfully fatigued with talking to people who care for the CHURCH or (Bunny & Co) dress - envy hate and all uncharitableness.
