Switzerland. May 1921.
One thing I am determined upon. And that is to leave no sign.
There was a time — it is not so long ago — when I should have written all that has happened since I left France. But now I deliberately choose to tell no living soul. I keep silence as Mother kept silence. And though there are moments when the old habit ‘tempts’ me — I may even get so far as to write a page — they are only moments & each day they are easier to conquer.  [KM Notebooks]

Dear Mr Squire,
Just in case anyone should write to me c/o The Mercury would you kindly readdress the letter to 10 Adelphi Terrace c/o The Nation and Athenaeum. I have left the South of France for good but I haven’t found my mountain yet and letters are so rare in my world that I cant bear the thought of them being lost.
Yours very sincerely
Katherine Mansfield. [To J. C. Squire in Collected Letters, 12 May.]
